Oslo: a twilight swim in Bjørvika

Oslo has evolved a lot and reinvented itself in recent years. New neighborhoods have popped up in different areas around town – and among these is Bjørvika, near the Opera House. Bjørvika was originally an area of little interest, where the docks of the city were located. The construction of the Opera was the first step towards completely transforming the harbor into a vibrant new neighborhood, perfect for all aspects of urban life.

The Oslo Opera was designed by Norwegian the architectural firm Snøhetta. The marble façade was made to resemble an iceberg emerging from the waters of the fjord. If you want to enjoy a panoramic view of both the city and the Oslo fjord, why not take a walk on the roof? On warm summer days, locals flock to the waterfront to lounge in the sun, relax in a sauna, or take a dip in the sea.

That night, a group of teenagers had gathered at sunset for one last swim. They took turns jumping into the water from the diving board on the pontoon across from the Opera House. Their silhouettes stood out against the warm orange and pink shades of the fading daylight, with the white marble façade of the Opera in the background, creating an atmosphere akin to an idyllic seaside vacation, right in the middle of the city.
