Warsaw: the hanging gardens of the university library

The University Library Garden (Dobra 56/66) is a hidden gem and was one of our favorite discoveries in Warsaw. The garden opened in 2002 and covers over a hectare of land. It’s made up of two parts, connected by a cascading stream on a soft slope. The lower part serves as an entryway to the upper garden, which is located on the roof of the university library.

The rooftop garden is comprised of 4 sections – the golden section to the north, the crimson section to the south, the silver section to the east, and the green section to the west. Each of these zones is full of vegetation that reflects their name, and the different parts of the garden are connected by paths, bridges, and pergolas. The contrast between the lush greenery and the glass surfaces of the building’s façade is striking.

This is the ideal place to meet up with your friends for a sunset picnic and enjoy the view of the Warsaw skyline.
