Where to stay in Copenhagen: Hotel Alexandra

Hotel Alexandra celebrates Danish design and furniture. An authentic experience steeped in local charm and hospitality, right in the heart of Copenhagen. This unique boutique hotel will make you feel like you’re travelling back in time, with its refined interior, vintage esthetic, and commitment to sustainability.

Hotel Alexandra has racked up an impressive collection of mid-century modern Danish design furniture from the 1950s and -60s. Paired with woven textiles and graphic printed wallpaper, these pieces are used to furnish and decorate the hotel’s 61 rooms and common areas. The walls of the building, which dates back to 1908, are hung with modern Danish artwork.

The lobby is dotted with iconic pieces – take a seat on Finn Juhl’s Poet sofa, or on the Harp chair by Jørgen Høvelskov, and leaf through a few design books. The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and elegant.

Guests may choose from a range of seven categories of rooms, from the functional and compact single rooms (11 m2) to suites bearing the names of great masters of Danish design (35 m2).

We opted for a double room, with a surface area of around 15 m2. It contains a large double bed, all the modern comforts you may need (wi-fi, TV, air conditioning), and has a view overlooking a side street (Studiestræde).

Each room is unique, and furnished with authentic mid-century Danish chairs, lamps and desks.

Beyond its tasteful interior, Hotel Alexandra is actively committed to sustainable tourism. With its Green Key-certification, it aims to reduce its impact on the environment: reasonable energy use, cutting back on non-essential waste, sustainable consumption… And thus, retro charm here combines with a very contemporary environmental conscience.

This boutique hotel is ideally located smack dab in the center of Copenhagen, just a stone’s throw from City Hall (Rådhuset) and Tivoli Gardens. From Rådhuspladsen metro station, which is no more than 3 minutes’ walk away, you can easily travel to any neighborhood in the capital, and even the airport.

We particularly enjoyed

  • The design interior, dedicated to mid-century modern Danish furniture
  • The feeling of having traveled back in time
  • The friendly and obliging reception team
  • The hotel’s location in the center of Copenhagen
