Paris: sunset behind the Eiffel Tower

The top of the hill in Montmartre is one of the most iconic places in Paris, and the highest viewpoint in the city. From the top of the stairs at 130 meters, the sweeping, panoramic view is stunning. The French capital stretches out in all its glory as far as the eye can see.

The Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur towers over the hill, a benevolent lookout post watching over the rooftops and monuments of Paris.

While exploring the labyrinth of tiny streets all around the neighborhood, the sunset blazed across the sky. Then, suddenly, the Eiffel Tower appeared between the buildings, standing majestically against the horizon. Its unmistakable silhouette was shrouded in hazy hues of orangey pinks, creating a magical, romantic atmosphere.

This view would certainly have inspired renowned artists such as André de Toulouse-Lautrec, Juan Miro or Vincent Van Gogh, who once lived Montmartre. It embodies the very essence of the City of Lights – vibrant, creative, and mysterious.

I love how the Eiffel Tower can be seen from many vantage points around Paris, how even when you aren’t expecting to see it, it appears. And it has such a diverse array of moods, each one of them unique… in the sunset… in the mist of the rain on a cloudy day… or bold and bright on a sunny day. I’ll have to check out your article on Paris. I spent my junior year of college studying there so the city will always have a special place in my heart.

So beautiful. One of the reasons why I always enjoy an amble around the district is to be rewarded with some of the best views of Paris If you take a few steps away from the masses in front of Sacré-Coeur, you’ll be treated to some excellent views of the city to the southwest, a direction which isn’t visible from the basilica plaza. This direction is where you’ll find… the Eiffel Tower!
