Munich, the capital of Bavaria, attracts millions of visitors with its rich cultural heritage, welcoming atmosphere and unique way of life. Between its historical sites, massive green spaces and local traditions, the city is full of treasures to explore.
From the Marienplatz, the beating heart of the hold town, to the gigantic Englischer Garten, the traditional Biergartens and architectural masterpieces such as the Frauenkirche or the Residenz, every neighborhood reveals a new side of Munich.
Here is our selection of 10 must-see spots to get the most out of your stay in the Bavarian capital.

1. Marienplatz
The main square in the center of Munich

A massive public park in the middle of the city. With its surface area of 4,2 km2, it’s even larger than Central Park in New York

For over 50 years, the waves in the man-made river at the south end of the Englischer Garten have been a prized spot for surfers from around the world

5. Viktualienmarkt

The palace of the Dukes, Prince Electors, then Kings of Bavaria, as well as the Hofgarten – a large park bordering the Residenz and the Odeonplatz

A traditional and authentic part of the local way of life
8. Schwabing
A historically artistic and bohemian part of Munich

9. The churches in the city center
The Frauenkirche (a late Gothic style cathedral), the St. Peter Kirche (Munich’s oldest church, and our favorite), the Heilig-Geist-Kirche or Church of the Holy Spirit (Gothic church renovated in the Baroque style in the 18th century), the Asamkirche (Baroque and Rococo style)…
10. Odeonplatz and the Theatinerkirche
A Baroque church built in the 17th century

Munich was the first city we’ve been in Germany and we enjoyed our trip there that opened the doors to another trip back to the country years later.
