Where to stay and enjoy a spa day in Strasbourg: Hotel Maison Rouge

Hotel Maison Rouge is the epitome of modern, elegant, and welcoming luxury in the heart of Strasbourg. Ideally located in the pedestrian city center, 100 m from place Kléber and just a few minutes from la Petite France and the Cathedral, this exclusive establishment is the perfect base for exploring the city’s many treasures. After trying out their generous Sunday brunch a while back, we recently enjoyed a more in-depth experience with an overnight stay, dinner, and a relaxing spa session.

Maison Rouge is one of Strasbourg’s most iconic buildings, recognizable by its iron oxide red façade. This color is a nod to the original inn – the “Red House” as an institution has been welcoming travelers since 1387. Moreover, this historic year is what inspired the name of the hotel bar and restaurant: “Le 1387”.

The hotel re-opened its doors in 2021 after 3 years of renovations, which were managed by two interior decorating agencies – Laurent & Laurence (based in Paris) and Atelier Mäco (based in Lyon) – as well as the experts from Ets Bruder, who specialize in hotel renovations.

Hotel Maison Rouge Autograph Collection has been transformed into a chic and cozy space with a warm, intimate, and authentic atmosphere. The interior mixes a refined, 20s-inspired Art Deco style with Alsatian influences (through elements such as the beautiful vintage stained-glass windows in the stairwell)..

The elegant design is ubiquitous and particularly well executed in the hotel bar and restaurant, “Le 1387“. Bookcases and cabinets of curiosity truly add to the unique quality of this exquisite space.

Le 1387 is open to guests of the hotel, as well as to outside clients. The restaurant menu changes throughout the day: in addition to a selection of à la carte dishes, there are also lunch menus, and pastries for tea-time in the afternoon.

In the evening, the lighting becomes softer and more muted. The dishes created by chef Jonathan Rauch are made with fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients. The umami notes of the poached pikeperch in a dashi broth with root vegetables, shiitake mushrooms, shrimp and ramen noodles are particularly well-balanced.

The bar offers a wide selection of fine wines and signature cocktails imagined by the in-house mixologist. Special mention to the passionfruit meringue pie twist on the “1387 Pornstar” (vodka, passionfruit puree, vanilla syrup, French meringue, and sparkling wine) and the fruity freshness of the “Sweet Raspberry” (alcohol free, raspberry puree, fresh mint, lime, and ginger beer).

The hotel houses 131 fully renovated rooms and suites, some of which even offer a view of Strasbourg Cathedral. The rooms span 8 different categories, ranging from 17 m² single rooms to the 80 m² “Maison Rouge” Signature Suite with Cathedral view.

Our spacious Privilege Double room combines elegance, brightness, and comfort. The designers have successfully created a subtle balance between tradition and innovation, 20s-inspired interior, and modern furnishings.

The Art Deco molding, leather headboard, rattan wardrobe, and black and white bathroom make for a harmonious fusion of classic and contemporary. Jérôme loved the rain shower, while Stéphanie enjoyed the bath products by Clarins.

The hotel spa is much more than just a relaxation area – it is an oasis of calm in the heart of the city. As soon as we step foot inside the spa, we are surrounded by a peaceful and serene atmosphere.

This 150 m² haven of wellness allows visitors to relax and take a break from the stress of everyday life. Everyone is free to use the space as they like: you can unwind in the cleansing steam of the hammam, revitalize in the dry and invigorating heat of the sauna, decompress in the soothing jacuzzi, or enjoy a refreshing sensory shower. For an even more relaxing experience, the spa offers an array of Vinothérapie” treatments by Vinésime, which make use of the regenerative properties of wine grapes.

The clean and minimalist decor, with light wood, brass, white and black marble, creates an ideal environment where you can let go and disconnect from the outside world. The spa is accessible by reservation and is open to both hotel guests and outside clients.

Breakfast (as well as Sunday brunch) is served in the charming Salon Mistinguett. The soft and cozy interior, with powdery, pastel shades, velvet couches and marble furnishings, creates an elegant and charming atmosphere. The delicious and varied buffet offers something for every palate, whether you are in the mood for something sweet, or something savory for breakfast.

Hotel Maison Rouge is the perfect place for luxury getaway and a unique and relaxing experience in Strasbourg.

We particularly enjoyed:

  • The ideal location in the center of Strasbourg
  • The classic charm and Art Deco design of the interior
  • The serenity of the wellness area
  • The wide array of sweet and savory dishes at breakfast, both from the buffet and à la carte
  • The friendly and helpful staff
