Having enjoyed our stay at hotel LÉONOR in early spring 2022, we recently returned to sample their new afternoon tea concept.
Hotel le LÉONOR is located in the former residence of Marshal Léonor Marie du Maine de Bourg. This historic mansion (which for many years served as a police station) has been transformed into a tasteful and chic establishment, as well as a lively hub, open to the people of Strasbourg. The interior design is a flawless combination of tradition and modernity in order to create a laid-back setting.
The hotel has both a lounge bar and a restaurant with its unique culinary signature
In addition to its all-day menu, le LÉONOR offers an afternoon tea on weekends, Saturdays and Sundays from 15:00 to 17:00 in the hotel restaurant.
Teatime at le LÉONOR consists of a set menu of six sweet pastries and two savory treats. As they are made with local ingredients, the menu will vary according to which produce is in season. The pastries are presented on a three-tiered serving tray, and the savory pieces on a platter.
Guests may choose from an array of hot drinks (teas from Mariage Frères, Valrhona hot chocolate, or coffee), as well as champagne or sparkling wine (crémant d’Alsace).
Our favorites: the cookie tartlet with grain caramel and caramelized popcorn, a Paris-Brest inspired choux with pistachio cream and praline, and the madeleine with rose and raspberry.
We particularly enjoyed
- The mix of French pastry classics and traditional Alsatian elements – with a twist
- The well-balanced sweetness of all the pastries
- Our affable and helpful server
- The elegant, understated, and calming decor of the restaurant

So do we, and you don’t see it too often in France, beyond a single pastry for the “goûter”, so this was a lovely experience! Thanks for commenting 🙂

Afternoon teas are very popular in the UK, but I don’t think I’ve come across a similar concept in France before I read your post. I would love to try this afternoon tea in Strasbourg!

We agree, it’s quite rare in its traditional form here, although you do find tea rooms where you can have a piece of pie and a cup of tea. This is one of the first ones we’ve come across in town with a more classic approach. Heartily recommended!
